Textify Voice vs VoiceInk

VoiceInk is the comparison where we have to be most careful, because it's already doing the thing we've only committed to: it's GPLv3 and its source has been public on GitHub for a while, today, not at some future launch. Where the two tools differ is price shape and maturity — VoiceInk sells a one-time license for its signed build (the source itself is free), and it ships features we haven't built yet. Here's the honest split.

Full disclosure. Textify Voice is our product. We built it, we're biased, and we've tried to write this page the way we'd want a competitor's page about us to read: real numbers, sources, and the honest cases where something else is the better pick.

Choose VoiceInk if…

You'd rather pay once and own a license outright than depend on a project staying maintained for free.
You want Power Mode's per-app configuration and a personal dictionary for names/jargon — both shipped and mature today.
You want to read, audit, or build the source yourself right now — the repo is public on GitHub today, not "coming."
You want a product with a longer track record and a larger existing user base to compare notes with.

Choose Textify Voice if…

You don't want to pay $29+ to use a signed build — ours is free to download and run today, alpha caveats and all.
You want dictation bundled with the same free toolset you already use for YouTube transcripts, audio, and video to text.
You're fine trading VoiceInk's maturity for a newer alpha in exchange for zero cost and zero license management.

Where we're behind VoiceInk, honestly

Our source isn't public yet — VoiceInk's is, today. We don't get to claim "open source" as a present-tense fact until the mirror repo ships.
No Power Mode or personal dictionary equivalent.
English only, and an alpha with a much shorter track record.
Not notarized yet; VoiceInk's signed build doesn't trigger the Gatekeeper first-launch warning ours does.

FAQ: Textify Voice vs VoiceInk

Is VoiceInk actually open source, or just "source available"?

GPLv3, and the repository is public today on GitHub (github.com/Beingpax/VoiceInk, checked August 2026) — genuinely open source, not source-available. We are not there yet: Textify Voice is open source (GPLv3; repo public at launch), meaning the code isn't public as of this writing. If "open source, right now" is what you need, VoiceInk earns that claim today and we don't.

If VoiceInk is open source, why does it cost $29–69?

Because GPLv3 guarantees you can read, audit, and modify the source — it doesn't guarantee a free pre-built binary. VoiceInk's $29/$49/$69 tiers (Solo/Personal/Extended, one-time, checked against tryvoiceink.com in August 2026) buy you a signed, ready-to-run build and license key; if you have Xcode and are willing to build from source yourself, using it costs nothing. Textify Voice's binary is free either way — there's no paid tier to unlock a signed build, because we don't have one.

Which one has more features today?

VoiceInk, clearly. Power Mode (per-app behavior configuration) and a personal dictionary for names and jargon are both shipped and mature. We're an alpha built around one core loop — hold a key, speak, get text — and haven't built out equivalents yet. If per-app customization matters to your workflow today, VoiceInk is the more capable tool right now.

Does VoiceInk work on Windows or iOS?

No — VoiceInk's own GitHub README specifies macOS 14.4 or later with no Windows or iOS support mentioned. It's a Mac-only tool, same as Textify Voice. If you need Windows or iOS with local processing, see our comparison with superwhisper instead, which covers both.
